After, nearly 3 years, Iam BLOGGING again!!!! This time, Iam bringing before you, MY review, of a WONDERFUL Malayalam Soundtrack!
RITU [ഋതു ] is a Malayalam film, directed by the ace National Award Winning and internationally reputed film-maker, Shyama Prasad.
The Music of RITU, cannot be described briefly described in a single review. This is Musical Extravaganza, and it would never be an exaggeration, if say that, if the film was a British or American Production, Rahulraj would have got an Oscar nomination, and would possibly go for a win in the Original Song Category. If u find, my words, too hard to digest, the soundtrack of Ritu is my ANSWER for you.
The soundtrack has five worldclass songs.
Pularumo: The song starts off softly with heavenly chord arrangements, and on progressing, to higher pitches, turns out to be a celestial melody. The tune is a Magic, created in Kalyani raga. Original innovative ideas, like using flute as a small rhythm piece, lifts the song to above worldclass levels. Rahulraj, enhances the melody, by bringing in varying string arrangements. The amazing chord progressions, chorus, layered synth pads etc, make the song, join the league of Worldclass songs like ‘My heart will go on’ from Titanic and ‘Into the West’ from The Lord of the Rings.Superb rendition by newcomers Suchith and Gayathri.
Love Kills: This song has English lyrics throughout. Smitha Nishant renders the track. This is an Electropop number, with innovatively programmed rhythms and addictive bass hooks. The track falls in the genre of most modern Electro-Pop-Dance numbers of the late 2000’s. Trumpet appears in the track, which adds Jazz as a hidden layer. This track would be a rage among the youth, as Rahman’s ‘Boys’ was in 2004. EXTRA-ORDINARY is the only word that defines the track.
Venal Kattil: This is another magical piece, from Rahulraj, who also renders the song. Rahulraj’s exceptional voice powers the flawless rendition. The extraordinary tune is powered by exceptionally arranged acoustic strings. Variations in bass throughout the song, make u feel that you are traveling to some other planet. Saxophone, one of Rahulraj’s favourite instruments, plays magic in this track too. This is a song which would get the listeners instantly hooked to it. The melody in the tune, is what Malayalam songs have been missing for long. Rafeeq Ahmed's inspiring penmanship adds to further intoxication.
Kukkukkoo: Again backed by trademark Rahulraj acoustics, this song, would be a popular number among the masses. Superstar (Reality show hosted by Amrita Tv) runner up, JEETU, renders the song. The tune gives you a pleasant feel, and takes you to a feel-good atomosphere, like many Rahulraj songs like ‘Hey Lelo’ had done earlier. Rafeeq Ahmed’s lyrics have been written for the masses, which would instantly appeal to all. The lyrics can be described, to fall in the genre of the superhit tamil song, Urvasi Urvasi(Kadhalan). Rahulraj, shows his versatility again, by bringing in jazz, in interlude form, to a modern country-based song. JEETU’s voice, is so vibrant, and reminds us of Karthik’s renditions in Malayalam.
Cindrella(Chanchalam): This song is rendered by Neha, and the runner-up in the first season of ‘Superstar’ ; Job. This is a soothing, but fast moving melody, powered by trance and club beats with Indian Classical interludes.
The first four songs, would create instant addiction to listeners, whereas, the last song, would take its time, to grow on you. If the movie becomes a hit as expected, then, this soundtrack would be a LANDMARK in Indian Film Music History. Sure, there is scope for National Award for the composer. Oscar, certainly is a distant dream for a Malayalam Film.
